The Hotel Forstinger, founded in 1927 by Maria Forstinger, is a truly
Austrian institution, a former "Wirtshaus" or canteen from 1606 with the
comfort and service of a 4-star hotel. Schärding is a postcard-pretty
little village, looking more like a painted backdrop for an operetta
than a "real" town. A fountain graces the central square, which is
encircled with gaily painted, narrow buildings whose rooflines step up
in a wonderful assortment of shapes and designs to give an effect of
gaiety and charm. Every exceptionally pretty spot needs a good hotel and
luckily Schärding has the Hotel Forstinger, located half a block from
the square.
The façade is very old and quite simple: it is a boxy white building
with brown trim and an arched doorway. Within you are greeted with
warmth, both from the elegant and clean decor and from the Forstinger
family who own the hotel. The hotel has been completely renovated
offering the latest in luxury while preserving the buildings historical
details. The spacious guestrooms are all individually decorated and
lovely in decor using beautiful antiques from the family's private
collection.
A wide and varied recreational offer in immediate proximity of the
hotel, making an ideal environment for family and leisure holidays.
There are 40 Km of private fly-fishing routes at 5 rivers and an 18 hole
golf course 10 Km from the hotel, as well as hiking, biking and a
casino.
