In the Pays du Gard, within easy reach of the magnificent Pont du Gard site, lies France's oldest Duchy, the Duche d'Uzes. Avignon is some 40 Km east and Nimes 26 Km south. Uzes is today a lovely small market town, extremely well preserved with many historical monuments.
The centre of Uzes is quite special, with many small pedestrian lanes, planted squares with fountains and archways and a multitude of traditional shops. There is a good selection of traditional restaurants, and lively café terraces. The Saturday weekly market on the Place aux Herbes is a must.
