A former Benedictine priory with delightful views over the Loire Valley,
Le Prieuré stands on a plateau surrounded by 60 acres of wooded parkland
overlooking the River Loire. Resembling a château, it retains historic
charm with excellent regional cuisine and is well placed for exploring
nearby Saumur.
The original 12th century structure was rebuilt in Renaissance style in
the 16th century with a square tower added in 1830. The result is an
imposing mix of architectural features with a selection of beautifully
furnished rooms and suites in both the house and adjacent buildings.
Have lunch in the restaurant, which as well as having fantastic river
views, serves delicious regional specialities which are complemented by
some of the finest wine from the Loire Valley. Suitably refreshed,
explore the pretty medieval town of Saumur with its château, or the
nearby Troglodyte village of Rochemenier.
