According to the chronicles the house was built as early as 1534. Originally, during almost four centuries it served as a farmhouse until it was turned into an inn.

This property is located in the "Heringsbronnengasse". The name is derived from the medieval fountains in which the pickled herrings brought from the coast and stored in barrels were desalted and washed.
