This listed building was formerly a metalwork’s owned by Friedrich
Engels, a famous German thinker, now houses a unique art-focused hotel.
With a name true to its roots, "Fabrik" means factory in German, the Art
Fabrik Hotel Wuppertal was built a few years ago, in 2003, by promoters
of a charitable foundation, Bethe, Roswitha and Erich Bethe, with the
idea of bringing together three concepts: accommodation, charity and
art. The establishment is indeed a real art gallery, not only because of
its own design, the work of over 50 artists, but also because of the
exhibitions and art studios which are housed there. The proceeds
obtained from the sale of artworks are destined to six children’s
hospices in Germany.
This surprising hotel offers 140 especially comfortable rooms. Among
them are rooms equipped with their own sauna, as well as "Artistic"
rooms, entirely designed by a specific artist. Some of the rooms have
their own PC. A design restaurant is also the creation of a group of
more than 50 artists. Every table and chair forms part of a fantastic
artistic whole, conducive to enjoying art, cuisine and even music with a
live piano player. The art studios are a key part of the establishment
as local and international artists can use them for free for up to one
year and guests can share in a unique experience by observing them
working whilst having a coffee in the cafeteria. Also guests can peruse
the works that are on exhibition as well as relax in the spa, featuring
a Persian style steam bath. Furthermore, the hotel is proud to present a
series of beauty services topped off with their own, on-site stylist who
can assist guests upon appointment at least an hour in advance. The
hotel provides its guests complimentary use of the following items:
several drinks, pay-TV, WLAN Internet access, car parking and soothing
good-night music developed by Asian psychologists. The hotel also offers
rooms for disabled persons.
Art Fabrik Hotel Wuppertal enjoys an ideal location both for business
travelers as well as tourists. It’s situated 6 Km from city of Wuppertal
(10 minutes by car) and just a few minutes’ walk from the Wupper River.
Whether by public transport or own vehicle, guests can easily access the
zoo, botanic gardens and the famous Von-der-Heydt Museum, as well as
other attractions.
