Originally St. Stephen's Parochial School dating back to 1861, today
this stunning building is home to one of the most unusual boutique
hotels in Dublin and is an ideal place to stay while exploring Dublin.
The original building of the hotel was designed by the famous
architectural partnership of Sir Thomas Dean and Benjamin Woodward, a
partnership which also designed two of Dublin's finest buildings, the
Museum Building at Trinity College and the Kildare Street Club. The
school closed in 1969 and did not re-open again until 1998, when it
opened its doors as The Schoolhouse Hotel. Completely refurbished in
March 2006, the hotel has retained many of its original features and has
become one of the trendiest small hotels in Dublin. Original
architectural features such as the forty foot vaulted beamed ceilings,
Gothic windows and baronial fireplace have been restored to create a
perfect ambience for a leisurely break or business trip to the city.
Thirty one deluxe guest rooms are each individually decorated with
original William Morris designs. All rooms are named after Irish writers
and poets of distinction and feature king size beds with micro fiber
duvets to guarantee a great night's sleep. Bathrooms are in keeping with
the nineteenth century period and feature Victorian style power showers.
When it comes to drinking and dining, its former classrooms now host the
award-winning 'Schoolhouse Restaurant' and the lively and popular
Schoolhouse Bar - renowned locally for its vibrant atmosphere.
With a superb location in the Georgian district of Dublin, the
Schoolhouse Hotel is just a ten minute walk to the area’s many famous
squares and buildings including Merrion Square, Trinity College and the
National Gallery. City centre attractions such as St. Stephen’s Green as
well as the fashionable shopping area of Grafton Street are also located
close by. The hotel is nestled in the leafy suburb of Ballsbridge which
is ten minutes from convention and concert venues such as the RDS and
Lansdowne Road. The hotel is an official stop on the Aircoach service
that departs and returns to the Airport every 15 minutes. Dart and Bus
services are less than 3 minutes walk from the Schoolhouse door.
