Relais Villa Baldelli is a 17th century villa which has undergone
indispensable and meticulous restoration making it perfectly adapted to
receive guests. Inside the villa the characteristics of a bygone age
have been retained: internal walls which have been restored and frescoed
and the outside walls have been restored to their former glory.
The original water well is supplied by the natural water table. The
trees invite you to rest and find peace in their shade, and the garden
paths are all paved with cobblestones. The walls of the rooms are
lightly painted with pastoral frescoes and decorated with vintage
paintings and printed reproductions.
From the hall you can enter a relaxing room furnished with sofas and
tables. There is a small bar and a breakfast room on the ground floor,
in which the antique stone fireplace makes a fine setting representing
the history of the villa. The ground floor is particularly charming with
its decorations made from segments of 17th century altars.
Relais Villa Baldelli is a real discovery for tourists: immersed in the
peace and quiet of the pleasant and abundant surrounding countryside,
even though it is close to residential areas and transportation routes.
If you look up you will see the rooftops, belfries and towers softly
reaching towards the west like a painting hanging in the air. This is
Cortona, the oldest city in Italy, as written by the American writer
Henry James who was enchanted by the city.
Cortona, which can be reached from the villa within few minutes, is one
of the cities that best represent the region of Tuscany. Cortona is
simply enchanting, with its archaeological, heritage, Etruscan walls,
medieval streets and houses, Renaissance buildings and multilingual
population passing in the town squares.
Cortona, high in prestige and mythology, tells the tourist an enchanting
and suggestive story of the gods that founded it and lived there:
Jupiter, Electra, Darden and of heroes that were buried here: Ulysses
and Pythagoras. Finally, Cortona offers a variety of delicious and
enticing cuisine waiting to be enjoyed.g
