The Hotel Pulitzer is a unique hotel, comprised of twenty-five authentic
17th and 18th century Amsterdam canal houses. Almost a whole block of
these historical buildings have been rebuilt and restored to create the
hotel, which overlooks two of the city’s most picturesque canals,
Prinsengracht and Keizersgracht. If you like hotels with a historical
atmosphere, you will find that the timber flooring, exposed ceiling
beams, Dutch tiled bathrooms and unusual room shapes will be very much
to your liking. Though rich in historical splendor, the hotel also
offers today’s modern amenities, including wired and wireless (Wi-Fi)
Internet access in all public areas, meeting facilities and certain
guest rooms.
The rooms were beautifully renovated in 2000 and most have wooden floors
or beamed ceilings, heavy wood furniture and are in exceptional
condition. The bathrooms are also in exceptional condition and are quite
stunning, with beige, chequered marble floors. Like almost all Old Dutch
houses in the city centre, the Pulitzer hotel has several courtyards and
a well maintained interior garden, which also houses an Art Gallery with
an interesting collection from local artists. Its restaurant, as well as
cafe and a bar, complete the Old Dutch interior atmosphere. Its private
dining room, De Apotheek, used to be an old pharmacy and still has the
same authentic characteristics. The Pulitzer also has a spacious on-site
gym, very high-tech, which is complimentary for all guests, and a wide
range of meeting and banquet facilities, ideal for weddings, private
parties and business events.
The hotel’s location is ideal for enjoying the city’s recreational
pursuits, and for experiencing the Dutch way of life. Rent a bicycle to
explore the quaint little shops in the Jordaan district. Anne Frank
House, the Van Gogh Museum, the Historical Museum and the Royal Palace
are all within reach. The hotel also has its own canal boat, The
Tourist, which provides picturesque canal trips.
