The original building of the hotel was designed by the famous architectural partnership of Sir Thomas Dean and Benjamin Woodward, a partnership which also designed two of Dublin's finest buildings, the Museum Building at Trinity College and the Kildare Street Club. The school closed in 1969 and did not re-open again until 1998, when it opened its doors as The Schoolhouse Hotel. Completely refurbished in March 2006, the hotel has retained many of its original features and has become one of the trendiest small hotels in Dublin. Original architectural features such as the forty foot vaulted beamed ceilings, Gothic windows and baronial fireplace have been restored to create a perfect ambience for a leisurely break or business trip to the city.
