This period townhouse was built on the remains of a medieval cardinal’s palace, and features superb 18th century interiors with antique furniture and old master paintings. Almost all of the 27 rooms have a romantic view on a quiet cobbled square or the lavish garden with the Popes’ Palace in the background. The interiors are 18th century, Louis XV and XVI: panelled doorways and dado, cornice, chintz wall hangings and curtains, the later silk lined, vintage oak parquet, bathroom with historic block printed wallpaper and Carrara marble floor.

Until 1990 when it was turned into a hotel, it was house to one of the leading families of Avignon, one of whose members was the mayor of the city in the second half of the 19th century and an intimate friend of the emperor Napoleon III.
